We engage our families through inviting them to participate in our class in the following ways:
Bagels for Bubbies and Zaidies
Chanukah performance
Curriculum night
Parent teacher meetings
Shabbat and holiday programs
All special days will be marked on the calendar so make sure to save the dates.
We also welcome parents to collaborate on class projects and to visit the class to teach them about community helpers.
Mitzvah note: We encourage and welcome written “mitzvah notes” about good deeds (mitzvot) that the children have performed. These little notes, we believe, are a way in which to reinforce positive behaviour. You might wish to discuss the note with your child in order to decide on a particular mitzvah he/she has performed, such as tidying their toys, sharing with a friend, listening nicely to the requests of parents, etc. The mitzvah notes will be read aloud in class at circle time once a week.
Show and share: Wednesday will be Show and Share day. The children can bring in any item they choose from home (of course, with the approval of Mom or dad first!). The teachers may choose a theme for show and share ie. something that begins with the letter of the week. They will have the opportunity to talk about it to their classmates during circle time and share it with their friends during free play. This gives the children an opportunity to share their belongings with their friends while boosting their confidence. Toys should only be brought in for Show & Share Day. Teachers cannot be responsible for toys brought in at any other day.
Birthdays: Classroom birthday parties may be arranged in co-operation with the staff at school – at least one week in advance. The school must certify all refreshments brought for the celebration kosher, pat yisroel, non dairy and nut free.
Daily communication: We aim to communicate each child’s growth and development with parents through day to day interactions. Teacher’s will use the communication app to let you know how your child ate, bowel movements, and how long they napped. They will also use the app to post pictures of your child throughout the day. Please keep in mind that the teacher’s first priority is your child’s well being and will try her best to update the app when she is able to. If you have any questions about your child’s day feel free to ask or communicate through the app any questions that you have.
Blog Posts and Communication emails: Newsletter blogs will be posted at the end of each unit. The blog posts will show pictures of your children with a description of what the activity and the process of learning taking place. Weekly emails will tell about special events in the classes as well as important information you need to know. Please read them. Your comments are always welcome, as we are always looking for new ideas and ways to improve our educational program.
Documentation: Displays of documentation and class projects will be posted outside the classroom as well as inside the classrooms.
Portfolios: Portfolios accessible to parents which will be reviewed at parent teacher meetings and sent home in August.
Program plans: Weekly program plans are posted on the parent information bulletin so that the door for parental inquiry is always open and information is readily accessible.
